I’ll be honest, you’re not going to find a great guitar for under $300.
I assume you mean steel-string acoustic and not nylon-string?
If you’re looking for a nylon string, the only playable model under $300 would be the Yamaha C40.
For steel-strings…
You could check out Jasmines (low-end Takamines) but for some reason, the sunburst models are the best (the black and red ones suck, don’t ask me why).
Yamaha, Gibson and A&L guitars are all okay and some of those models are around your price range.
Other than that, there’s not much for steel-string guitars.
Just stay away from the crappy brands (i.e. Denver, Nova, First Act, Givson [note the V], Encore, Harmony, Crafter, etc.)

If you can pick up a true Guild D-25 in good condition for that amount, TAKE IT!
Guilds are solid, US-made guitars that will age beautifully.
