I have been playing guitar for 10 years and know what it takes to become a serious guitar player. I bought this book for a church youth group kid who is a true beginner at playing any instrument. It is the best bass guitar book ever written for beginners. I have tried to find a bass guitar tutorial over the internet that is free, but this book was worth paying the $8. 95. This book comes with a cd that provides a thorough tutorial. The voice on the cd and the play-along segments made me feel like I was getting a private bass lesson from a professional. If you’re debating whether or not to get this book, I would say that if you’re a beginner and want to learn the basics of bass guitar as well as the slap/pop technique, I strongly recommend this book. Don’t forget to check “yes” if you thought that my recommendation was helpful!

If the electric bass is your first instrument this is the book for you. It teaches you technique, scales and common bass lines for ballads, country, latin and blues. It gets you started with music theory without boring you through pages of uninteresting riffs. The four step approach really got me started where you learn three different riffs (each containing a mini music theory lesson) and then put it all together. The book comes with a CD which is at times silly but of utmost importance when just starting out. I bought three books and this was my favorite.

  3. This book takes everything you might fear in starting the bass guitar and explains it in the simplest terms possible. Whether you have studied music before or are a true beginner, this book will get you started quickly and easily. I would highly recommend this to anyone!

This is the method I use for my beginning students. It contains examples of building bass lines within the chord changes, and explains the theory behind it. It also explores a variety of styles, giving the student exercises to play along with an accompaniment track. The CD that comes with the book is an outstanding teaching aid for studying on your own, or as a supplement between private lessons. The only downside is that I have yet to find a follow up book by these same authors.

  5. As a oldie but goodie bass guitar player, I found Dale Titus’ book very good and it helped me out a lot. I learned some new riffs and I am learning how to slap/pop. . . he explains just how easy it is to do and the CD is great. All the songs on the CD are good and easy to play. Thanks Dale for putting back the spunk in my bass playing.
