is it normal to use a jazz bass guitar in a rock band?

Me and my friends are beginning, and it does when using a jazz bassist for the band?

Don’t worry about whether or not you are following conventions, just try it out to see if you like how the music flows.

Yes. It really does not matter. There are many rock bass players that play a jazz bass.

  3. Ace Shadow says:

It matters if you’re going for a modern hard-rock or something effect.
Don’t use it for that, but you can if you’re more classic affect it’s okay.

  4. Return Of Jackyl says:

A bunch of Psychobilly bands use stand-up bass’s, so you’re not alone.

Not sure if you’re referring to a ‘stand-up bass,’ or something like the Fender Jazz bass guitar?

The solid body electric Fender Jazz Bass is really just a model name. It can be used for any type of music.

Stand up basses are generally seen in bluegrass, jazz combos ..etc, but even these basses could work with any type of music..it all depends on the player and what the song, or sound, you’re seeking requires.
