How to fix my Xbox 360 Guitar Hero 2 controller?

I bought this Guitar Hero 2 controller for my Xbox 360 recently in a Goodwill store and took it home, only to find that the strum button (I think it would be like a button) only works in one direction. It is down strokes, no. I wonder if I was there as I could open it and fix it, or is it useless now?

   Flip it 180 degrees each time you need to strup down.

   Go back to the store and tell them it is broken. They should give you a new one.
