Guitar Solo?

In your opinion, what song is the world’s largest guitar solo? I would have to go with Comfortably Numb. Every time I hear it, it blows my mind, why all the love stairway to heaven? I heard not so great.

I have to go with two songs –

Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry (Live)”
    and
    Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven,”

the latter being my choice if I must choose one. They are both perfect solos, technically superb and yet they carry the emotion of a story. But I don’t know if I can even say those are always my favorites, depends on my mood. Can’t forget about the solo from “Beat It!”

Pink Floyd songs have some of the worst guitar solos ever, in my opinion – cliché after cliché. But I hate Roger Waters’ voice and Dave Gilmour’s guitar playing, so that’s a matter of taste.

Here are ten songs that have, I think, killer solos. The names of the guitarist/s in question are listed in brackets after the song titles:

    Frank Zappa: Montana (Frank Zappa)

Deep Purple: Flight of the Rat (Ritchie Blackmore)

Talking Heads: The Great Curve (Adrian Belew)

Television: Marquee Moon (Richard Lloyd & Tom Verlaine)

    Rush: Tom Sawyer (Alex Lifeson)

Richard & Linda Thompson: Shoot Out The Lights (Richard Thompson)

Cream: Sunshine Of Your Love (Eric Clapton)

Black Flag: Louie Louie (Greg Ginn)

    The Beatles: Something (George Harrison)

The Golden Palominos: Omaha (Henry Kaiser)

All of these solos bring the song onto a new level.

I’ll go along with that. I am one of those folks that puts more emphasis on emotion than speed. That is an excellent guitar lead with incredible tone.
