  1. The new iPod Nano really has me scratching my head, to be completely honest. First off, they actually decreased the screen size and resolution. After that, they took out the camera. Then they took away the trademark scroll wheel. Then they put a touch screen on it, which is roughly the size of four fingertips. Now, this would probably be acceptable if it were, say, $50 less than it it currently is. But the fact of the matter is that you’re paying $180 (MSRP) for something that has less features than, say, the Sansa Fuze+ coming out soon, which is $120 for 16GB. That’s 60 bucks less for a bigger screen, video support, a memory card slot, and of course not being tied into iTunes. In fact, the Microsoft Zune HD is currently about 10 dollars cheaper on Amazon than the Nano, and the Zune is closer to the iPod touch in features, minus the apps.

As it is, the Nano is a stripped down version of its old self, for the same or higher price. Of course, it will still be successful because it’s an iPod, but it’s definitely not going to be as well-recieved as the fifth-gen.

And before people go saying “but you’ve never even tried it!” I don’t need to own it to look at the spec sheet and know very quickly that this is a downgrade but with the original pricetag. The majority of a review is focused on features, the rest is on user experience. And of course, you know that the user experience for an iPod is most likely going to be good, hence the second star. But the simple fact is, you can get a better player with a bigger screen and with actual buttons that is a lot cheaper than this.

  2. I think every single review here is completely pre-mature. None of you have even seen or touched device in real life, so therefore there is no need to make complaints. I will post a review once the new iPods are actually RELEASED!

  3. Yes, touch screens are cool. . . . but honestly, what are you going to do in a 1. 5″ screen? when I have my music playing, I would much rather have hard buttons I can feel and touch so that I don’t have to look at the screens to change songs/adjust volume etc. I owned the previous generation Ipod, its cool, sleek. but is it really worth the price? plus you are tied to itune which I hate the most since I like to drag and drop music. and cheap headphones that are included are plain junk. My favorite player is still my creative x-fi 8gb. $70, crisp 3. 5″ screen, light, yet solid, comes with $50 in-ear earbuds (yes they are 100x better then apple’s standard earbuds). I also have the creative x-fi2 which is sleeker, bigger screen, touch screen. However, as I suggested. Touch screen isn’t really a favorite when its used as a music player. The x-fi 2 does, however. Have a 4. 3″ 16. 7million color screen which is excellent for watching video. Now back to the ipods. . . . . The only ipod that I actually liked. . . is probably the 2nd generation shuffle. perfect size, stylish, easy to use.

Let’s face it. This is an ipod shuffle with a touch screen. If this was an upgrade for the ipod shuffle, and the price point was $50 less for both models ($99 and $129 respectively), it would be worth it. Instead apple is taking away video playback and capture for the same price and storage capacity. This new “nano” just screams ripoff.

  5. In actuality, I love everything about this player but there is one BIG drawback. It doesn’t play videos at all! My old iPod did not survive the washing machine, and it played video! I bought a TV show on iTunes that is not available on DVD. I bought a cord to connect the iPod to the TV so I could watch the show on my TV. I do not need a iPod Touch, I really just want the music capabilities and would like to watch my tv show once in a while. While this player is perfect (almost) I will have to go with the older model. Sorry Apple. But you release a new iPod every quarter, so you can fix it soon, right??
